Exchanges & MICs

Market Identifier Codes offers a universal method of identifying exchanges, trading platforms, regulated or non-regulated markets and trade reporting facilities
Tradologics uses MIC (Market Identifier Code) to identify and refer to exchanges on the platform. For venues where MIC doesn't exist (as is the case with some crypto and forex exchanges), a similarly formatted ID is allocated to that venue by us.
A new MIC format (v 2.0) has been published as of the November 2021 release. Both formats of MIC data will co-exist for a period of 12 months ending in October 2022

US Equities

The simplest way to refer to US equities is by not using MIC at all, and instead, using the REGION suffix. The reason is that although you can trade AAPL on many exchanges – you can only refer to it by its primary exchange MIC code, which will require you to know which is the primary exchange for every ticker and learn its MIC.
For example, you can refer to Apple's stock (which is traded on NASDAQ) using AAPL:XNAS, and you can refer to SPY ETF (which is traded on NYSE American) using SPY:XASE –– but you can use :US for both (AAPL:US and SPY:US).
Which one looks simpler? :)
